Eiji Shimada

Eiji Shimada -Film Director-

Born in Kushiro, Hokkaido, Japan in 1976. After majoring in architecture at the Hokkaido University, Eiji learned filmmaking in the summer school of USC in Los Angeles. His early short film, Hands [6:30/DV/color/2001], has been screened to festivals around the world, and he started forcus on short films. In 2001 he established an independent short film production Max Core Room Project, aiming to set up a new base of short film culture and industry in Hokkaido. Being accepted as a residence artist in 2002 by Intercross Creative Center, his action has got more active. In 2003 his thirteenth short film 6PM [7:30/DV/color/2003] was awarded BEST MINI-SHORT, as a first Japanese prize-winner at the California Independent Film Festival. In parallel, since 2002 he has also been teaching filmmaking to the children in the elementary schools in Sapporo.
